Vizhinjam: A deep crater has been formed in the centre of the docking berth close to the fishing harbour in Vinzhinjam. Meanwhile, the authorities are worried about the sturdiness of the berth where the flimsy layer of cement has been separated.

The new damage has occurred as the berth that was constructed for the coastal police was being rebuilt after a crack was formed on it. It is said that the berth was destroyed after the giant crane, which was brought to pave the heavy cement blocks for the new berth, drove over it.

The new dock was built for berthing the coastal police’s boat. The construction of the wharf was stopped after this incident.

The harbour engineering department stated that the construction of the berth will resume only after the chief engineer inspects the spot.
