Misconduct, criminal cases: 144 Kerala cops removed from service in 9 years

The Kerala government dismissed 144 police personnel from service between May 25, 2016, and September 18, 2025, the Home Department said in a statement. Of these, 82 were removed for involvement in serious criminal cases, while 62 were dismissed for grave misconduct.
The statement further said that 241 police personnel were removed additionally as part of routine departmental action during the same period, including for unauthorised absence from duty.
During the tenure of the present state government alone — from May 20, 2021, to September 18, 2025 — 84 police personnel were dismissed, comprising 46 for involvement in serious criminal cases and 38 for grave misconduct. In addition, 169 personnel were removed from service in this period for unauthorised absence from duty.
