Kannur: The corporation has decided to dismantle the old building that is on the verge of collapse and dilapidation. Time has taken a severe toll on the corporation’s building near the She Lodge close to the Cal Tex signal. Recently, a huge concrete block that fell off the building had destroyed a car. Corporation secretary Vinu C Kunjappan issued an order to dismantle the building after the accident.

The engineering wing has been instructed to cordon off the area close to the boundary of the building to ensure the safety of the public. Besides, the revenue department will take down all the numbers associated with this building. Public entry has been restricted to this area as part of the dismantling process.

The three-storey building, meanwhile, is more than five decades old. Apart from the ground floor, all the floors in the building are in a precarious position and might collapse at any moment. Concrete blocks falling off the building have become a common thing. Besides, the iron rods have rusted and are visible too.

The doors and windows of the building are in a decayed condition. The corporation has decided to dismantle the old building and then build a shopping complex in the same spot using the central government’s town infrastructure development fund.
