Wayanad: Traffic restrictions will be in place on the Thamarassery Ghat Road from Monday, between 8 am and 6 pm, due to road widening works.

The restrictions are being imposed to facilitate the loading of felled trees and earthwork as part of the widening of the 6th, 7th and 8th hairpin curves. The restrictions will remain in place until further notice, according to the Public Works Department (National Highways).

Multi-axle vehicles and heavy trucks will not be allowed to use the ghat road during this period. These vehicles have been asked to take alternative routes via the Kuttiady Ghat Roador the Nadukani Ghat Road.

Authorities have advised travellers to plan their journeys before 8 am or after 6 pm to avoid traffic congestion. Passengers travelling during restricted hours have also been asked to carry drinking water and light food, as long delays are expected.

Meanwhile, traffic on the Thamarassery Ghat Road was normal on Sunday as most tourists left the region following the end of the peak tourist season, which began on December 22.

But over the past week, the ghat road has witnessed severe traffic congestion and frequent accidents, resulting in long traffic snarls. At times, vehicle queues stretched from Adivaram to Lakkidi, forcing many passengers to take longer alternative routes to avoid hours-long delays.
