Idukki: Thodupuzha police have registered a burglary case after thieves stole 27.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments and ₹24,000 in cash from a locked house at Vazhithala.

The theft occurred at the residence of Ramachandran Nair, ‘Rohini’, while the family was away. According to the complaint, the family locked the house around 9.30 am on Sunday and left for an amusement park in Kochi. They discovered the burglary when they returned home at about 10 pm.

The family found the front door forced open and rooms and cupboards ransacked. They later confirmed that gold ornaments and cash were missing. Fingerprint experts and a dog squad visited the house to collect evidence. Police said they have not yet identified the suspects and that the investigation is underway.
