Thrissur: Athirappilly witnessed yet another wild elephant attack on Tuesday, with a herd targeting a temple and workers’ quarters.

The elephants damaged the sanctum sanctorum of a Shiva temple, breaking the platform inside the shrine and smashing the doors of the sanctum and an adjacent office before dragging items outside. The herd also broke into nearby workers’ quarters at Kalady Plantation in the Athirappilly Estate, Block 17 belonging to Rajendran and Shaji, entered the houses and destroyed household articles.

About a month ago, a nearby church was similarly attacked by wild elephants. The TSR Quarters area remains under constant threat from elephant incursions, forcing around 60 families to relocate due to the persistent menace.
