Kasaragod District Court complex evacuated after bomb threat; no explosive found

Kasaragod: The proceedings at the Kasaragod District Court complex were disrupted on Thursday after an anonymous email threatening a bomb attack triggered panic and emergency checks.
The email, sent in the early hours of the day to the official court email ID, warned that explosive devices had been placed inside the premises and demanded that judges be evacuated by a specific time. Following the message, court functioning was affected as security agencies initiated verification and precautionary measures.
However, police officers said the contents of the email were largely incoherent and difficult to comprehend, with claims and references that appeared disconnected and poorly articulated. Parts of the message mixed unrelated allegations involving police personnel in Tamil Nadu, political references, and vague demands, making the intent and meaning of the communication hard to understand.
The letter also contained grammatically flawed and factually questionable statements, including apparent mistranslations, suggesting the use of unreliable translation tools. Authorities noted that while the threat itself was taken seriously as per protocol, the email’s narrative lacked clarity and credibility.
Police have registered a case and are attempting to trace the sender, whose email ID and claimed organisational affiliations are under scrutiny. No explosives were found during initial checks, officials said.
According to the letter, three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) made of RDX have already been planted at key locations in the court building. "During lunch time, one or two members will come very close to the court building. The IEDs will detonate themselves when the lone Tiger members with remote control triggers come within 100 feet of the premises."
The email claimed that certain police personnel and political supporters in Tamil Nadu were being subjected to humiliation and unfair treatment. Citing these perceived injustices and the alleged failure to implement long-pending police reform recommendations, the sender said the threat was intended as a way to “send a message” and force attention to their demands. The email is signed off under the name 'Tamil Liberation Organisation' (TLO).
It also names film producer Aakash Baskaran and actor Nivedha Pethuraj, but their inclusion appears incongruous and bears no clear connection to the claims made in the letter.
Around 12.15 pm, judicial officers, court staff, advocates and litigants were allowed to re-enter the complex after the police completed a thorough security sweep.
