Nedumkandam: A farmer died after being attacked by a swarm of hornets while working in a cardamom plantation at Udumbanchola here on Friday. The deceased is B Subrahmani, a native of Pannapuram in Tamil Nadu.

Another worker, Murugan, who was with him at the time of the incident, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Nedumkandam.

The incident occurred while the two were at work on the plantation when a hornet nest was accidentally disturbed, triggering an aggressive swarm. While Murugan managed to escape, he suffered multiple stings across his body. Subrahmani, however, was unable to flee and was repeatedly stung, leading to severe injuries. He collapsed in the plantation after losing consciousness.

Though both were rushed to the hospital, Subrahmani breathed his last. Murugan is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
