Amid torrential rains across the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kararagod. A yellow alert has been declared for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram.

The district collectors of Kottayam and Kannur have declared a holiday for all educational institutions tomorrow. In Kannur, the holiday is not applicable for residential schools. The scheduled interviews, public and university exams will happen as usual. The Education Department has issued specific regulations and directives stating that academic days lost due to holidays granted under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, must be compensated by conducting classes on Saturdays or other holidays.

In Kozhikode, educational institutions except professional colleges have been declared a holiday. This includes anganwadis, madrasas and tuition centres as well. However, this holiday is not applicable to scheduled exams and online classes. In Wayanad, a holiday has been declared for coaching centres, religious study classes, and tuition centres. Residential schools and professional colleges have been exempted from this holiday. Restrictions have been imposed on night traffic along the Boys Town-Palchuram road.

Authorities of residential schools have been instructed to take necessary action in this changing weather.

The weather agency has warned of poor visibility leading to traffic disruption, uprooting of trees leading to possible damage in the power sector, waterlogging, possible landslides/mudslides, and flash floods. The public has been advised not to venture out in open areas, as lightning incidents may occur as well. It is advised to stay on alert for further weather-related updates.

Squally Weather with wind speed 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail along and off the Kerala coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea during this time.
