Kathmandu: India on Tuesday issued emergency contact numbers for its citizens in Nepal, asking them to reach out in case of any urgent situation or need for assistance. Nepal plunged into turmoil after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned in the face of massive anti-government protests. Demonstrators attacked the private residences of several top leaders, including President Ramchandra Paudel, and vandalised the parliament building.
“All Indian nationals in Nepal are hereby requested to note the following telephone numbers from the Embassy of India, Kathmandu, for contact in case they face an emergency or require assistance: +977 980 860 2881 and +977 981 032 6134,” the Embassy said in a post on X.
The Ministry of External Affairs also advised Indian nationals to defer travel to Nepal until the situation stabilises. Those already in the country were urged to stay indoors, avoid public gatherings and follow local safety advisories as well as updates from the Indian Embassy.
Meanwhile, air connectivity between the two countries was disrupted. Air India cancelled four of its six daily flights between Delhi and Kathmandu. IndiGo and Nepal Airlines also called off their services on Tuesday after Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport was temporarily closed.
