Kohli, Rohit will be assessed, but they’re not on trial: Agarkar

Ajit Agarkar, BCCI's chairman of selectors, said seasoned batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not be on trial, though they will be assessed at the upcoming tour of Australia, starting October 19.
Kohli and Rohit, both former captains, are returning to the ODI set-up after a gap of seven months. The duo will play under the captaincy of Shubman Gill in a three-match ODI series Down Under.
"It will be silly to put them on trial for every game," Agarkar said of the duo. "Once they start playing, they will be assessed, but they are not on trial," said the former India pacer at the 'NDTV World Summit'.
However, Agarkar added that the performances of Kohli and Rohit in Australia will not guarantee them spots in the Indian squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
"It doesn't mean if they don't get runs in Australia, they would be dropped and similarly if they score three tons in Australia, they would be selected for 2027 World Cup," said Agarkar. Both Kohli and Rohit retired from T20Is and Tests.
The first match of the tour will be played at Perth, followed by 50-over matches in Adelaide (Oct 23) and Sydney (Oct 25). A five-match T20I series will also be played, between October 29 and November 8.
