Indore: Two Australian women cricketers participating in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup were allegedly stalked, and one of them was molested by a motorcycle-borne man in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore.
The accused, Akil Khan, was arrested on Friday in connection with the incident, which occurred on Khajrana Road on Thursday morning, an official said. A bystander had noted Khan's motorcycle number.
Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi said the two players had stepped out of their hotel and were walking towards a café when the man began following them. He allegedly touched one of them inappropriately before fleeing the spot.
The cricketers informed their team security officer, Danny Simmons, who coordinated with local security liaison officers and sent a vehicle to assist them.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the players, recorded their statements, and registered a case under Sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the MIG police station.
“Khan has prior criminal cases against him, and further investigation is underway,” the official added.
