Security has been heightened for the Sri Lankan cricket team that is on a month-long tour of Pakistan following terrorist attacks in Islamabad and Wana.

The same day Sri Lanka began their ODI tour in Rawalpindi, a suicide attack took place in Islamabad, killing 12 people and injuring at least 27. According to a source quoted by PTI, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the country's Federal Minister for Interior Affairs, was made aware of the security concerns.

"Security has been beefed up with Pakistan Army and the paramilitary rangers now deputed to monitor the visiting players and officials," the source said. Sri Lankan High Commissioner, Admiral (retired) Fred Seneviratne, had a meeting with Naqvi.

Pakistan blamed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for the terror attack in its capital city. During their March 2009 tour of Pakistan, the Sri Lankan team bus was attacked by gunmen near the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. At least six members of the team were wounded, while six Pakistani policemen and two civilians were killed in the attack. Following the attack, Pakistan did not host international cricket for almost a decade.

After two more ODIs in Rawalpindi, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe will play a T20 triangular series from November 17 to 29.
