Manav Krishna played arguably the finest innings by a Kerala player this season with a century to pull the state from the verge of an innings defeat against Saurashtra in a Cooch Behar Trophy match in Wayanad.
The skipper made 189 off 233 balls to rescue Kerala from a precarious 167/7 to 352 in the second innings. Kerala had conceded a 272-run lead in the first innings after being skittled out for 110 in response to the visitors' total of 382. Manav had contributed 37 in the first innings.
But his best contribution was driving Kerala’s second innings with valuable partnerships on the penultimate day of the four-dayer.
Manav held a 90-run (151 balls) partnership for the 9th wicket with Devagiri (11) after forging a 91-run (143 balls) stand for the 8th wicket with Abhinav K V (38). He had also stitched up a 77-run partnership with his brother Madhav Krishna (25) for the fifth wicket before Saurashtra dismissed three Kerala batters within 20 balls.
Right-hander Manav hit 26 boundaries and four sixes in his heroic innings that was ended by Mohit Ulva. Manav had won the Promising Youngster award in the state NSK Trophy held in June this year. Abhinav dismissed Karn Gadhavi before close of play, with Saurashtra 8/1 and needing 72 to win.
Brief scores: Kerala 110 & 352 in 91.2 overs (Manav Krishna 189, Madhav Krishna 56, Abhinav KV 38, Mohit Ulva 3/69) vs Saurashtra 382 & 8/1 in 5 overs. Stumps on Day 3
