Abhigyan Kundu became the first double centurion in Youth ODIs for India with an unbeaten 209 against Malaysia in the Under-19s Asia Cup in Dubai on Tuesday.
The 17-year-old left-hander took just 125 balls, hitting 17 boundaries and nine sixes. Vedant Trivedi made 90 and 14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed a 26-ball 50.
India posted a massive total of 408/7 in 50 overs, while left-arm pacer Muhammad Akram bagged a fifer for Malaysia. India won the match by a whopping 315 runs, after reducing Malaysia for 93. Right-arm pacer Deepesh Devendran bagged 5/22 from 7 overs, while Udhav Mohan claimed two wickets.
It is not always that the spotlight moves away from Suryavanshi, but wicketkeeper batter Kundu was simply too good.
Kundu and Trivedi added 209 runs for the fourth wicket. Captain Ayush Mhatre fell for 14, while Malayali batter Aaron George Varghese, who scored consecutive fifties, was rested for this match.
Kundu's 209 is only the second double century in Youth ODIs after South Africa's Jorich Van Schalkwyk's 215 off 153 against Zimbabwe earlier this year in Harare.
India have won all three group matches and await their opponents in Friday's semifinal.
Brief scores: India 408/7 in 50 overs (Abhigyan Kundu 209 not out, Vedant Trivedi 90, Vaibhav Suryavanshi 50, Muhammad Akram 5/89) bt Malaysia 93 in 32.1 overs (Hamzah Panggi 35, Deepesh Devendran 5/22, Udhav Mohan 2/24)
