Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke a couple of cricketing records as he smashed an 84-ball 190 for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh in a Vijay Hazare Trophy Plate ground match in Ranchi on Wednesday.
Centuries from captain Sakibul Gani (128 not out) and Ayush Loharuka powered Bihar to a Vijay Hazare record total of 574/6. Arunachal were bowled out for 177, giving Bihar a massive 397-run win.
The day belonged to 14-year-old star Suryavanshi, who became the youngest centurion in a List-A (50-over) cricket match, reaching the triple digits off just 36 balls. It was also the first century he scored in a non-T20 match.
As the left-hander crossed the 150-mark off 59 balls, he broke an international record, going past South African great AB De Villiers to register the fastest 150 in List-A cricket. De Villiers took 64 balls for his 150 against the West Indies in 2015.
Suryavanshi hit 15 sixes and 16 boundaries at a strike rate of 226. The young opener recently hit a 95-ball 171 for India against the UAE in the T20 Under-19 Asia Cup. This month, he became the youngest centurion in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 with a 61-ball 108 against Maharashtra.
Earlier this year, Suryavanshi hit a 38-ball 101 for the Rajasthan Royals against the Gujarat Titans to become the youngest IPL centurion.
Interestingly, Suryavanshi wasn't the only record-breaker on the day as Bihar skipper Gani hit a 32-ball century. Bihar broke the previous record total of 506/2 set by Tamil Nadu in 2022.
