Six-hitting machine Vaibhav Sooryavanshi fell six runs short of the fastest century in List A cricket. The 15-year-old made 94 off just 29 balls for India A against Sri Lanka A in the final of the tri-series at Dambulla on Sunday.

Sooryavanshi clubbed eight sixes and 10 boundaries in his innings that went at a strike rate above 320. Jake Fraser-McGurk's 29-ball century for South Australia against Tasmania is the fastest List A century. Sooryavanshi could have equalled the incredible record, but overhit an Arachchige delivery and was caught.

Earlier, the boy from Bihar made the fastest List A fifty, taking just 11 balls. He hammered Mohamed Shiraz for 26 runs in the third over, and reached the milestone in the next over, bowled by Dulaj Samuditha, by picking a length ball and lifting it over mid-on for a six.

This is Sooryavanshi's first time with the senior boys, and though he showed glimpses of his readiness, a big score had eluded him. His previous best in the series was a 44 against Afghanistan A.

Tilak Varma leads the India A side that comprises Ruturaj Gaikwad, Priyansh Arya, Vipraj Nigam, Anukul Roy and Yash Thakur, among others.

Sooryavanshi had an outstanding IPL 2026 season, scoring 776 runs from 16 innings to take the Orange Cap for most runs in the event. The Rajasthan Royals star has two IPL centuries. The first came off 35 balls, in his debut season in 2025, and the other, a 36-ball century against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Jaipur in April.
