Pant overtakes Dhoni to become India's highest-scoring wicketkeeper overseas

Rishabh Pant has surpassed former India captain MS Dhoni to become the highest-scoring Indian wicketkeeper in Test matches played outside the country.

Pant achieved the feat with his half-century in the second Test against Sri Lanka, taking his tally in overseas Tests to 2,501 runs from 36 matches at an average of 41.68.
Dhoni had scored 2,498 runs in 48 overseas Tests at an average of 32.84.

The 28-year-old has also strengthened his position as the highest run-scorer among Indian players in the World Test Championship. Pant made 2,948 runs from 42 matches, narrowly ahead of Shubman Gill, who has 2,917 runs from as many Tests.

Pant scored 63 off 89 balls in India's first innings of the second Test against Sri Lanka. He had retired hurt after suffering an injury on the opening day but returned to the crease to make a crucial half-century.

Pant and Dhruv Jurel put together a 112-run partnership for the seventh wicket, helping India post a strong total.

The latest milestone comes just days after Pant created another piece of Test history. During the first Test, he became the first Indian and only the fourth batter overall to hit 100 sixes in Test cricket.

He also became the fastest player to reach the landmark, achieving it in his 51st Test.
