Greatness is subjective, especially in sports. Fans remain split on who, among Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi, sits at the pinnacle of men's football. The never-ending debate has once again cropped up as Ronaldo turns 40.

Deliberate or not, Argentine great Messi's club, Inter Miami, have given a glimpse of their superstar's undeniable brilliance on the day his Portuguese nemesis celebrates his birthday.

Miami posted a short clip of Messi's enviable footwork during their most recent pre-season friendly win over Sporting San Miguelito in Panama. He aptly captioned the post: "Making it look easy" and placed a 'GOAT' emoji beside it. GOAT stands for Greatest Of All Time.

In the clip, 37-year-old Messi is seen evading challenges from at least three Sporting players before releasing striker Luis Suarez with a subtle forward pass.

It was a usual viewing for football fans, who had witnessed the diminutive magician torment opponents with his nimble footwork since making his Barcelona debut 20 years ago. The World Cup winner's command over the ball is such that he can make even incredible feats appear routine.

A couple of hours before that, Ronaldo's Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr gave their version of the 'GOAT'. Al Nassr posted a short video of Ronaldo's most recent goal, a trademark towering header against Al Wasl in the AFC Champions League.

On the eve of his birthday, Ronaldo said: "I'm the most complete player ever. To say that Cristiano isn't complete is a lie." He made the comment about himself in an interview on the Spanish television show El Chiringuito.

While social media has once again been entangled in the GOAT dilemma on Ronaldo's big day, let us sit back and enjoy the gifts he and his fellow modern-day great, Messi, continue to give.
