AI might officiate football soon because referees aren’t refereeing, fumes Spurs boss

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou reiterated his dislike for the time-consuming VAR (Video Assistant Referee) technology and bemoaned that AI might start refereeing football matches.
Postecoglou was upset by a lengthy VAR review that chopped off an equaliser scored by Pape Sarr in the Premier League match against arch-rivals Chelsea, which ended in a 1-0 defeat. The Australian has always maintained his opposition to VAR, claiming it was susceptible to multiple interpretations based on the individuals manning the job.
Sarr's equaliser was ruled out after an on-field review that took more than six minutes. "I don't like it, I don't see how its benefitting our game," Postecoglou said about VAR. "What's the point of having a referee then?" he said.
Postecoglou took objection to the fact that VAR disrupted the flow of the game. "I don't think anyone would have complained tonight if we just went with referee's decisions. You get some good some good, you get some bad, but you get on with it and the game finishes in 93, 94 minutes. The game flows.
"It's going to be refereed by AI pretty soon," Postecoglou said. "I say we might as well dispense of the players at some point; some guy comes up with a genius way of just having a game of football with no participants because referees aren't refereeing."
