The start of Khalid Jamil's tenure as India's head coach has brought good news to a familiar face who had been out of favour under the previous boss, Manolo Marquez.

Ace goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu is part of India's probables camp for the CAFA Nations Cup.

Sandhu last played for India in the 1-1 friendly draw against Malaysia last November. Marquez preferred Vishal Kaith for all of India's fixtures this year, including the consecutive defeats against Thailand and Hong Kong in June.

"A familiar frame, but it feels a bit different now. The desire, the hunger to go out there everyday wearing our nations badge has become even more intense," Sandhu posted on the social media platform X.

"Never fold, never back down, no matter how bleak the road ahead might look to be. I feel grateful and honoured to have the opportunity to be with the Indian football team again," Sandhu noted.

Jamil announced his first squad on August 15, comprising 35 probables. However, as of August 16, only 22 players reported, while the others are expected to join the camp after the Durand Cup.
