Asian Games Tennis: Ankita enters quarterfinals; Kamran Kaur bows out

Palembang: Ankita Raina booked a spot in the quarterfinals of the Asian Game tennis women's singles event even as compatriot Kamran Kaur Thandi crahed out.

Ankita breezed past Eri Hozumi of Japan 6-1, 6-2 in the pre-quarterfinals.

Kamran Kaur went down fighting to En Shuao-Liang of Chinese Taipei 2-6, 6-4, 6-7.

It was a good day for the Indians in the doubles and mixed doubles competitions.

Ramkumar Ramanathan and Sumit Nagal earned a place in the quarterfinals after a 7-6, 7-6 win over Chinese Taipei's Chen Ti and Peng Hsienyin.

Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan also advanced to the last-eight with a 6-3, 6-1 win over the Thai duo of Nuttanon Kadchapanan and Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul.

Ankita and Bopanna also progressed to the mixed doubles pre-quarterfinals after a hard-fought 6-3, 2-6, 11-9 win over Nari Kim and Lee Jeamoon.
