Jakarta: Indian ace P V Sindhu survived a scare to enter the women's singles pre-quarterfinals of the Asian Games badminton competition here on Thursday.

The world No.3 was stretched by Vietnam's Vu Thi Trang, before prevailing 21-10, 12-21, 23-21.

Sindhu looked in total control in the opening game, before being outplayed by the 52nd-ranked Trang in the second.

But Rio Olympic silver medallist Sindhu held her nerve at the crunch to eke out a 23-21 win in the decider.

Meanwhile, it was smooth sailing for Saina Nehwal as she downed Iran's Soraya Aghaeihajiagha 21-7, 21-9 to advance to the pre-quarterfinals.
