Malappuram: Two teams from Kerala – Calicut Heroes and Kochi Blue Spikers – will be among the six that would seek glory in Pro Volleyball League, which will be organised in February on the lines of Indian Premier League (IPL).
The tournament will open on February 2 in Kochi. Another venue is Chennai. The other teams represent Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai.
Baseline Ventures, a sports marketing firm, will organise the pro-volleyball league with the support of the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI).
The teams were announced in Mumbai on Monday. Players will be auctioned, like in the IPL, on December 15. Ten players from Kerala have already registered.
GS Akhin and Jerome Vineeth are marquee players in the League. Cochin Refinery star players P. Rohit, Tom Joseph, Vipin M. George, Ajit Lal and C K Ratish will also be in the auction.
The Dubai-based IT firm Beacon Group owns the Kozhikode team.
