Aluva: Jain University, Bangalore, and MOP Vaishnav College, Chennai, emerged champions in the men's and women's sections respectively in the UC Trophy South Zone inter-collegiate basketball tournament here on Friday.

Jain University edged out SB College, Changanacherry, 68-66 in the men's final to claim the Manorama Trophy.

MOP Vaishnav beat SRM University, Chennai, 94-72 in their last league match to triumph with an all-win record in the women's section.

They had earlier beaten Jain University 74-64.

Jain University took the second spot with a narrow 44-43 victory over Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram.

SRM Chennai finished third with their lone victory coming over Mar Ivanios (81-59).

Women: Round robin league: MOP Vaishnav College 94 (Sathya 30, Sruthy 23) bt SRM University 72 (Winner K Peter 19, Sobhana 18, Manisha 12).

Jain University 44 (Sarayu14, Chandana 10, Siya Deodhar 10) bt Mar Ivanios (Krishna Priya 14, Ameesha Jose10).

MOP Vaishnav College 74 (Sruthy 21, Nivetha 13) bt Jain University 64 (Siya Deodhar 21, Nadmi 13).

SRM University 81 (Sobhana 19, Winner 18, Nitika 11) bt Mar Ivanios 59 (Sumra Stanly 18, Chinnu Koshy 13, Krishna Priya 10).
