Thrissur: Kiran K of Palakkad was so explosive that he broke a meet record twice at the state schools' athletics championships on Thursday.
The 16-year-old had made his intentions clear in the heats of the 110-metre hurdles event in the junior boys category. His timing of 13.93 seconds smashed a 2018 mark of 14.74 seconds in the name of Suryajith RK.

But Kiran wasn't done yet and he emulated that performance in the final with an even better timing of 13.84 seconds.
Kozhikode's Amarjith P had been rapid too as he clocked 14.84 seconds to silver, but Kiran had simply outclassed the field.

Kiran was the only record maker on the penultimate day of the event, which saw Palakkad in prime position to take the best district title. Palakkad were sitting pretty at the top of the points table with 179 points, comprising 18 gold, 21 silver and 9 bronze. Malappuram were second at 131 points (11 gold, 17 silver, 14 bronze).
