Kerala women finished runners-up in the 73rd Senior National Basketball Championship at the Guru Nank Stadium in Ludhiana on Sunday.
In the final, Indian Railways defeated Kerala 80-50 with Poonam Chaturvedi top scoring 23 points. Kerala, captained by KSEB's Grima Merlin Varghese, had led the first quarter 21-12, but failed to capitalise.
Indian Railways were denied a second title as their men's side lost (67-72) the final to Tamil Nadu. Baldhaneswar of Tamil Nadu and Poonam of the Railways were declared the Most Value Players of the championship.
Scores (Final): Women: Indian Railways 80 (Poonam 23, Pushpa Senthil Kumar 15) bt Kerala 50 (Aneesha Cleetus 15).
Men: Tamil Nadu 72 (Baldhaneswar 17) bt Indian Railways 67 (Palpreeth Singh 23).
