Thomas Cup: Holders India crash out after loss to China

Defending champions India crashed out of the Thomas Cup badminton tournament in Chengdu, China, on Thursday after losing the quarterfinals 3-1 to the hosts.

Lakshya Sen was the only Indian player who managed a win in the tie, defeating Li Shi Feng 13-21, 21-8, 21-14 to make it 1-2 after the holders had trailed 2-0.

India's Malayali player H S Prannoy lost the opening singles 21-15, 11-21, 14-21 to Shi Yu Qi. The star pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty failed to bring parity and lost 15-21, 21-11, 12-21 to Wei Keng Liang and Chang Wang.

India exited after Dhruv Kapila and Sai Pratheek surrended the fourth match 10-21, 10-21 to He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu.
