Hosts Kerala qualified to the pre-quarterfinals of the 53rd Senior Men's National Handball Championship at SB College in Changanassery on Friday.

On the second day of the championship, Kerala posted consecutive wins, edging Chhattisgarh 28-26, before defeating Jammu & Kashmir 33-28. Kerala will play Himachal Pradesh in the next round.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Haryana suffered a 26-29 defeat to West Bengal. Indian Railways, who finished runners-up last year, defeated Andhra Pradesh 27-17. Karnataka, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh and Services were the other teams that posted wins on day two of the event.
