The top-two in the 200 m medley was a reversal of the outcome from the previous National Games held in Goa in 2023. Sajan had clinched gold then with a Meet Record of 2:04.57, while Ganguly settled for silver.

In the Uttarakhand Games, Sajan claimed a gold and two bronze medals earlier, making him the most successful Kerala athlete. This is the 31-year-old's fifth National Games, and he has secured a total of 30 medals so far. He famously bagged four six gold medals during the 2015 National Games that Kerala hosted.
