Mar Ivanios basketball trophy: Christ college and Pala Alphonsa emerge champions

Thiruvananthapuram: Christ College Irinjalakuda and Alphonsa College Pala bagged the 60th edition of the Mar Ivanios trophy in the men's and women's categories, respectively, in the All Kerala Inter collegiate basketball tournament here on Friday. 

In the tournament held at Mar Ivanios Basketball Stadium, Christ College defeated Sree Kerala Varma College Thrissur, 70-56 in the men's final. Jeo Lonappan of Christ was the top scorer, netting 19 points. 

Alphonsa College pala edged out Providence College Kozhikode 40-33 in the women's final, helped by the performance of Maria Johnson, who scored 14 points to become the top scorer. 

Jeo Lonappan was named the Best Player in the men's category and Jeevemol Samuel was selected as the Best Players in the women's category.

Muhammed Sahal of Kerala Varma College and Fathima Hiba of Providence College were given the Promising Player Award. 

The tournament was conducted as part of the platinum jubilee celebrations of the college. Bishop Dr Mathews Mar Polycarpos and Mar Ivanios Principal Mary George distributed the trophies and cash prizes. 

Scores: Women's final- Alphonsa College Pala 40 ( Maria Johnson 14, Jibiya 11 ) beat Providence College Kozhikode 33;

Men's Final- Christ College Irinjalakuda 70 (Jeo Lonappan 19, Deepak S Vettathu16, Irfan Muhammed 13 ) beat Sree Kerala Varma College Thrissur 56 (Muhammed Sahal 20, Abhinav C K 13, Vaishnav R 10)
