Sunny Thomas was a legendary coach who inspired the Indian shooting team to dream of Olympic gold, said former Olympian PT Usha, as she paid tribute to the former national shooting coach who passed away on Wednesday, leaving behind a towering legacy in Indian sports.

"His style of training, rooted in tireless commitment and hard work, heralded a medal revolution in Indian shooting. As the nation began shattering long-held barriers previously considered impossible and claiming historic achievements, it was Sunny Sir’s selfless, steadfast service that laid the foundation," said Usha, also the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

"With a gentle demeanour that became his signature both in training camps and on competition grounds, his warmth and guidance also extended to athletes across disciplines. Truly worthy of the title ‘Dronacharya,’ Sunny Thomas brought immense pride to Malayalam and Kerala on the global sporting stage. His approach to training and the way he interacted with fellow athletes has left an impression on me too," she said.
