Nihal Sarin scored his second win of the Chennai Grand Masters by defeating American GM Ray Robson on Wednesday.

The Kerala GM got the better of Robson in a 43-game battle to take his tally to 3 points. Nihal's previous win came in the fourth round against India No 2 Arjun Erigaisi.

Nihal lost to Dutch GM Jorden van Foreest in the sixth round. The Thrissur native is the only Keralite among the 10 participants in the Masters' section.

Nihal will take on GM Murali Karthikeyan in the eighth round on Thursday.

German Vincent Keymer is the favourite to win the nine-round event as he leads the table with 5.5 points from a maximum 7 points. In the seventh round, Keymer defeated GM Awonder Liang. Erigaisi, who drew with Anish Giri, has 4 points.

With a classical rating of 2692, Nihal is the highest-rated player from Kerala. He is only the third GM from Kerala after G N Gopal and S L Narayanan.
