Hyderabad Black Hawks defeated defending champions Calicut Heroes 15-12, 18-16, 18-16 in the opener of the fourth season of Prime Volleyball League at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on Thursday. 

Vikas Maan's impressive blocks and Ashok Bishnoi's attacks gave a good start for Calicut. But the hosts found a way back into the game through Sahil Kumar's counter attacks.

While Shameem gave the visitors an edge, Paulo led the Hyderabad charge. Consecutive super serves from Bishnoi titled the game in Calicut's favour. 

However, Niyas and Guru Prashanth, who was last season's MVP, helped Hyderabad find chinks in Calicut's defense and win in straight sets.
