Magnus Carlsen maintained a near-perfect record against D Gukesh by defeating India's World Champion 5.5-0.5 across three days in the Clutch Chess Champions Showdown in Missouri, United States.
Gukesh had held the World No 1 to a draw in their second Rapid game on the first day of the event. But since then, he has lost 2-0 on consecutive days.
American Super GMs Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana were the other two participants in the event.
Despite starting on the back foot against Carlsen, Gukesh led the day 1 points table with four points, after beating Nakamura and Caruana, the latter, twice.
However, it was a disastrous outing for the 19-year-old on the second day as he went winless, securing just three points from as many draws (a win gets two points and a draw equals a point).
