Pentala Harikrishna bowed out in Round 5 after losing in the tie-breakers to Jose Martinez, leaving Arjun Erigaisi the sole Indian in the quarterfinals of the FIDE Chess World Cup in Goa.

Harikrishna lost 2.5-3.5 to the Mexican in the second series of tie-breakers. The duo played out quick draws in their first set of Rapid tie-breakers before Martinez got the decisive win with black pieces.

Martinez has set up a quarterfinal meeting with Uzbek star Javokhir Sindarov. Erigaisi, who defeated Levon Aronian before the tie-breakers, will face China's Wei Yi in the last-eight stage.

The first game of the two-game quarterfinal classical match-up will be played on Monday. R Praggnanandhaa's final appearance in the last edition is the best finish by an Indian in the World Cup.

The Chess World Cup is one of the strongest knockout events that began earlier this month with 206 players, including India's World Champion D Gukesh. World No 1 Magnus Carlsen, who is the defending World Cup winner, is not participating in the ongoing edition.
