MG University, Kottayam, clinched the women's basketball title of Khelo India University Games in Rajasthan on Friday.

In the final, MG defeated SRM, Chennai 74-60, with Akshaya Philip top-scoring with 17 points. Irin Elsa John and Krishnapriya S S contributed 14 and 13 points respectively for the champions. For SRM, Sangamithra M and Sona Resalin made 14 points each.

MG led the match throughout, taking a 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, before making it 34-27 at half-time. The Kottayam side stretched their game in the third quarter with a lead of 27 points.

In the semifinals, MG defeated Christ University, Bangalore, 70-61 and SRM had won 68-58 against Punjab University, Chandigarh.

The MG team, led by Sandra Francis, comprised Reena Ronald, Irin Elsa John, Arda Xavier, Teesa Harshan, Athira Das PK, Edlina Ann Joseph, Jeevamol Sunny, Aiswarya PK, Ajina A, Akshaya Philip and Krishnapriya SS.

CV Sunny was the head coach of the team with Kerala State Sports Council's Jobin as his assistant, while Suma Joseph was the manager.
