Top seeds Vardhan, Ingale enter quarters of Kochi's national ranking tennis tourney

Top seeds Vishnu Vardhan and Pooja Ingale advanced to the quarterfinals of the Naushad Mather Memorial National Ranking Tennis Tournament in Kochi on Wednesday.
Telangana's Vardhan defeated Delhi's Sarthak Suden 6-3, 6-1 in their men's singles pre-quarterfinal, while Ingale of Maharashtra had to play a decider with Reshma VSS of Andhra Pradesh before winning 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.
A few upsets were also in store on the third day of the main draw. Ajay Malik of Haryana and Ranjeeth V M of Tamil Nadu, seeded fifth and sixth respectively in the men's category, fell in the pre-quarterfinal stage. Malik lost 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-4 to teammate Jagmeet Singh, while Rajasthan's Faisal Qamar defeated Ranjeeth 6-4, 6-7(1), 6-4. Women's fifth seed Chevika Reddy of Telangana was upset by Karnataka's Hridayeshi B Pai, 6-3, 7-5.
