'Ramayan' is being telecast again since March 28 on public demand.
Reciting Ramayana observing certain rituals and traditions are believed to produce spiritual satisfaction as well as mental peace.
The mahakavya (epic poem) titled Janakiharana was composed by Kumaradasa, who Dissanayake describes as “allegedly a friend (probably a devotee) of the great Indian poet Kalidasa.” The Sanskrit work was largely forgotten but was rediscovered in Kerala in 1920.
The pilgrimage will have two components - one each in India and Sri Lanka.
Indian railway catering and tourism corporation limited (IRCTC) has launched a brand new year-end 'Ramayana yatra' package to Sri Lanka.
The train is likely to be launched after March 10, Railway Board Chairman V K Yadav said, adding that its annual schedule will be released soon.
In Ramayan, it is mentioned that Ram's army constructed a bridge over the sea between Rameshwaram and Lanka. After crossing this bridge, Ram's army defeated the demon king Ravana.
