The decision was taken on the basis of the findings of the three-member expert team appointed by the state government to probe the death of Plus One student Abheel Johnson in a freak accident during the State Junior Athletic Meet at Pala.
Sports Minister E P Jayarajan informed the Assembly that broad guidelines for sports meets would be formulated by incorporating the suggestions put forth by experts at the discussion organised by Malayala Manorama to support safe participation in sport.
The 17-year-old Plus One student’s death has also turned the focus on the laxity in adhering to safety guidelines while conducting such events.
