Gateway to the Himalayas

Rishikesh, which is known as the gateway to the Himalayas, is not only a land of spiritualism and natural beauty but also of adventure sports. It is a place that could be visited throughout the year. Rishikesh is just 25km away from another holy city Haridwar and is the starting point of journeys to sacred places such as Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, among others.

Quite obviously, Rishikesh, which is in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand, is dotted with many ashrams, hermits and yoga centers. The Ganga aarti, a ritual performed on the banks of the Ganga River every evening, is a treat for the eyes. Other attractions of Rishikesh include Kunjapuri temple with Sati devi as the main deity, the Ram Jhula and Lakshman Jhula bridges, the Neelakanta Mahadeva Temple, Rishikund, Vashishta Gufa, Omkareshwar Temple, Panchayati Temple, Geetha Bhavan, Triveni Ghat, Swarga Ashram and Shivananda Ashram, among others.

Besides the temples and ashrams, Rishikesh is one the favourite hunting grounds of adventure enthusiasts. You can go on a river rafting spree under the watchful eyes of professional guides. Many travellers come to this holy city for trekking and mountaineering too. The famous trekking trails of Rishikesh include Garhwal Himalayan range, Roopkund, Kuari pass, Kalindi Khal trek, Kankul Khal trek and Devi National Park, among others. People love to trek through these spots between February and October.
