Actress Miya often posts pictures with her little son Luka on her social media page. The photos of her on trips with her husband Ashwin and the baby boy have their set of fans too.

In a conversation with us, Miya reveals how she manages to travel with a toddler, the kind of trips she isn't a fan of, how the couple plans their trips, and more.

Miya says that her son Luka is a friendly child who doesn’t insist that his mother should be there for everything.  “Even if I am away for shoots, he doesn’t throw any tantrums. I don’t usually take Luke to filming locations. I travelled with him to the sets only on two occasions, when the shoots were for longer durations," she says. Apparently, shooting locations can't be a fun zone for children. She explains, "His sleep pattern, playtime, and daily activities get disrupted. All he can do is sit idle in a hotel room. So, I don’t usually take him to my workplace. But, the first time he travelled in an airplane is quite memorable,” says Miya.

Luka loves travelling
Even though Miya hasn’t taken Luka on longer trips, she says the little boy enjoys traveling and is quite used to it. Luka apparently travelled in an airplane for the first time when he accompanied his mother to Chennai for a 20-day shoot.

Her husband Ashwin and mother too were with them. Miya recalls that, unlike other children who would cry on airplanes, Luka was calm. Moreover, he didn’t experience any physical discomfort like ear pain.

She says, “We haven’t taken him for too many trips. Neither have we gone for foreign tours with him. But, I can say that we are planning one. I have heard many people say that kids insist on sitting on our laps through the journey and they would make us uncomfortable. So, we made him sit in car seats as soon as he began sitting up. Now, he too likes it."

She says that both the kids and the parents would be comfortable this way. "He could travel long distances sitting comfortably on the car seat. I think he really enjoys road trips. We had taken a road trip to Velankanni with Luka. He might have sat on our laps for not more than an hour. He was happy sitting in the car seat. Similarly, we had gone to Coorg too,” says Miya.

Travelling with a toddler
The actress says that one should plan well before setting out on trips with toddlers. Even though Miya’s mother mostly takes care of him, the actress enjoys arranging everything for him before a trip. She confesses that she likes packing his clothes, food, and medicines so that Luka would be comfortable during the trip.

“We should take all the precautions while travelling with a child. Do not forget to take the necessary medicines. Our attitudes and viewpoints change as soon as we become mothers. However, Ashwin and I are really enjoying these changes. We enjoy good conversations during our trips. I believe that speaking openly with your partner could make the relationship stronger. Traveling is the best way to engage in such beautiful conversations,” notes Miya.

The trip planner
Miya says she doesn't enjoy solo trips. "I need someone with me during trips. My husband Ashwin and I have travelled together quite a bit. It was through the trips that we got closer. I actually recommend long trips as they are great opportunities to spend time with each other without doing anything else. That is when good conversations happen," reveals the actress.

The couple apparently speak until they reach their destination. "We can discuss anything under the sun until then. In fact, we get to spend more time together during trips than we are at home. I think road trips are good for that. Long conversations between me and Ashwin had mostly happened during the long road trips inside the car," she says.

Whenever a trip is planned, all she cares about is the travel date and the duration of the journey, says Miya, who notes that her husband is not like that. "He manages everything. Moreover, he learns about the place that we are planning to go. It is Ashwin who usually looks for the places we could visit there and plans everything in advance. He would do thorough research about the unique culture, food, and things that shouldn’t be missed. I really enjoy such trips with my husband,” Miya signs off.
