Why was Javagal Srinath 'offered no seat' on Bengaluru Metro: Netizens discuss

India's former cricketer and current match referee Javagal Srinath was recently spotted travelling on Bengaluru's Namma Metro. The pacer was standing in a corner, with his trolley bag beside him, and under the photos showing him on the metro, many are discussing his simplicity. At the same time, many are wondering why nobody offered him a seat, despite enjoying an enviable career in the game. On X, a user said, 'Whoever was in the metro with him saw him and recognised him. Shame on you all. Couldn't any one of you all offer him a seat? You people are disgusting and have no true love for the sport!' Meanwhile, another said, "It is the irony of this country that we do not respect real heroes but run after fake Bollywood stars even if they go to jail for heinous crimes. 

Yet another person, who claims to have travelled on the same metro, said he was sitting comfortably and stood up only because his station was coming up. Many netizens also opined that Srinath is generally a very private person and is unburdened by his legacy or criticism. 'Standing in the metro and travelling is no lowly task; it's perfectly normal,' observed a few others. One comment from a verified profile named Harisankar R opined that Srinath wouldn't have accepted the seat even if someone offered it, and he doesn't expect any special treatment. 

Not a cheap mode of travel
Interestingly, Bengaluru's Namma Metro is known for its high fare structure and is often termed one of the country's costliest urban transit services. Its ticket cost surpasses even those in Delhi and Chennai. In February this year, there was a proposal to further hike the fare 5% more, but was put on hold due to political pressure and backlash. The proposal included increasing the minimum ticket price from ₹10 to ₹11 and the maximum fare from ₹90 to ₹95.
