The 121st edition of Maramon Convention got off with a call out to save the environment and to purify the human mind. The Convention traces its roots to great revival movement that gained momentum during the reformation period in the Syrian Church during the late 19th century led by Abraham Malpan. He is also credited with conducting the Holy Mass in Malayalam for the first time ever. Thousands flock to the sandbanks of Pampa to listen to the leaders in the church and other thinkers who arrive. The theme of this year's convention is about living as 'Symbols of Christian Values' in a society and growing towards ecologically sustainable development, enhancing it with age-old practice of backyard farming and sustainable agriculture. **Here are some quick facts** The 1st Maramon Convention was held in 1895. It was for 10 days starting from 9th to 18th March. The first convention was held on the Manalpuram (river bank) opposite to the Aranmula Temple. It then shifted to Parapuzha Kadavu near Maramon Church and then finally to its present location on the banks of the Pampa. The Maramon Convention completed 100 years in 1995. To commemorate the Centenary celebrations the Post and Telegraph Department issued a special cover at the Convention Nagar on 17 Feb1995. The church at Maramon is more than 570 years old.
