Plan a one-day tour from Thrissur city

Thrissur, Kerala's cultural capital, attracts quite a few travellers with scenic locations like Athirappilly – Vazhachal and Peechi dam along with the colourful festivals held in the district. A one-day trip can be planned to several spots in Thrissur district.

Nelliyampathy

Though a part of the neighbouring Palakkad district, the hill station of Nelliyampathy is not far from Thrissur. The various hills at Nelliyampathy have heights ranging from 467 to 1,572 m. Cool weather and picture postcard scenery at higher altitudes are certainly soothing.

Around 75 km from Thrissur city, ten hairpin curves have to be covered to reach Nelliyampathy. Along the route, travellers can also visit the Pothundy Dam. Emerald green tea estates, orange farms and several picturesque locations dot the roadside.

Another must-see spot at Nelliyampathy is the waterfall at Sitarkundu which cascades down from a height of around one hundred feet.

Athirappilly

Offering something for people of all ages, Athirappilly is among the most popular tourist attractions in Thrissur district. The waterfall at Athirappilly-Vazhachal is the biggest draw in the area and it has been the location of innumerable movies, many of them blockbusters. Near the waterfall are located Thumboormuzhi, Ezhattumugham village and several water theme parks where visitors can engage in fun and frolic.

Kochi

Ernakulam, another neighbouring city, can also be considered for a one-day's tour from Thrissur. What awaits travellers to Kochi are a Metro ride, a boat cruise along the backwaters and the unique sights at Fort Kochi and Mattancherry.

In addition, Marine Drive and Willingdon Island too offer a visual feast, making a single day’s trip somewhat hectic. So, travellers from Thrissur have to start their journey very early in the morning and prepare a list of the places they wish to visit.

But they can be rest assured that Kochi, the 'Queen of the Arabian Sea,' will never disappoint any traveller reaching its shores.

Visiting a beach

Thrissur prides itself over several scenic beach destinations dotting its coastline. They include the Azheekode beach near Kodungallur, Chavakkad beach and the Snehatheeram beach near Vadanappally. Another beach that is easily accessible from Thrissur is Cherayi in Ernakulam district. Each of them is an ideal place to spend a beautiful evening. The setting sun, the hues of twilight and the fine breeze that blows during the evening hours would make a beach visit really worthwhile.

A host of dams

Thrissur district houses dams which are located in some of the most scenic spots in Kerala. Peechi, Poomala, Vazhani and Chimmini dams are surrounded by scenery of amazing natural beauty. Visitors can spend considerable time at the dams and it gives them a chance to soothe their mind and body.
