Take a panoramic boat journey from Kollam to Alappuzha

The Kerala Water Transport Department's Kollam-Alappuzha passenger boat service connecting three charming backwater bodies is becoming increasingly popular among both domestic and international tourists. This 8-hour long boat trip through the scenic waters of Ashtamudi, Kayamkulam and Vembanad backwaters is sure to be a memorable experience. The boat service starts simultaneously at 10:30am from Kollam and Alappuzha every day.

From the Kollam boat wharf, the boat passes through Kavanad, Chavara, Kovilthottam, Tharayilthottam and reaches Amruthapuri. From there, it comes to the Thrikkunnappuzha Village Wharf via Kayamkulam and Ayiramthengu.

Further up, it covers Kumarakodi and Kavalackal Village Wharf at Chembassery before reaching the Vembanad backwater. The training centre of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and the Punnamada backwater where the famous Nehru Trophy Boat Race is conducted are some of the attractions that are covered in the trip. The journey ends at Alappuzha wharf at 6:30pm.

The boat travels through waters narrow and broad and between large expanses of paddy fields, offering panoramic views of the hamlets and homestays on the banks of the famous statue of Karumadikkuttan at Karumadi, Alappuzha, said to be the statue of Lord Buddha.

The fare for the Kollam-Alappuzha trip is Rs 400.
