Stargazing nights, fun-filled trekking and some precious moments of celebration are on offer as women are joining hands to hit the road by holding on to their travel dreams tight. The ladies-only trips gained popularity in Kerala five to six years ago and the aim was to realize every woman’s dream to travel alone but with other like-minded women.

Women of all ages geared up

Women of all ages from girl students to elderly ladies are enthusiastic backpackers of travellers’ collective called ‘Srishti’, says Geethu Mohandas, the brain behind the travelling community. Girl students, working women, housewives and retired women are all ready to set on a journey.

“And once you hit the road everyone is young. Most of the enquiries we get relate to whether there is an age limit to be part of the collective. More persons are showing interest after people who have already travelled share their experience with others,” she adds.

More takers for season tours

The natural season plays a pivotal role in selecting a travel destination. For example, if it is the summer season, people prefer to visit cooler places. Though initially the ladies-only trips were limited to destinations in Kerala, now the group is organizing foreign tours as well.

Security a priority

All the ladies-only trips are conducted by ensuring the safety of the women travellers. The organizers would undertake a trial tour to make sure that everything, including lodging, is in order before the all-women tour kicks off. The main aim of the trial tour is to ensure that adequate safety measures are in place. The group would embark on a journey only after the trial trip is made.
