Uttarakhand: breathing nature!

Uttarakhand, a state in northern India crossed by the Himalayas, is known for its Hindu pilgrimage sites. Rishikesh, a major center for yoga study, was made famous by the Beatles’ 1968 visit. The city hosts the evening Ganga Aarti, a spiritual gathering on the sacred Ganges River. Here are some of the best tourist spots of the state.

» Dehradun

Situated at the foothills of the mighty Himalayas, Dehardun is the capital of Uttarakhand. The landscape of Dehradun is breathtakingly beautiful with the snow-clad Himalayas on one side and river Ganges and Yamuna on the other. Apart from the bountiful charm of nature, Dehradun is famous for its splendid architectural display constructions. » Nainital

Popularly known as the lake district of India, Nainital is located 1,938 meters above the sea level and is a scenic delight, which is irresistible to tourists. It is located around the famous Naini Lake. With mountains on all sides, this place breathes nature, they say. Some of the most important tourist attractions here include the Naini Lake, Eco Cave Gardens, Naina Peak and the Himalayan View Point.

» Mussoorie

Queen of hills Mussoorie is located 6,000 feet above sea level. A place where mother nature kisses the earth, Mussorie is landscape reminds us of a foreign country. With snow-covered Himalayan peaks on view, the land has an excellent climate too. The winters here are chilling and the summers are pleasant. Mussorie was the place of residence of the Captain Young of the British army. Popular attractions in Mussorie are the Mussoorie Adventure Park, Camel’s Back Road, Jharipani Falls, Mussoorie Lake, Kempty falls and the Mall road.

» Rishikesh

Rishikesh is an amazing combination of spirituality and adventure. It is a confluence of river Ganges and river Chandrabhaga. While adventurous activities like trekking, rafting and camping will mesmerize the nature lovers, Rishikesh also has ample scope to satisfy the mind of a pilgrim. The place is called as the Yoga Capital of the world. Some of the most important tourist destinations in Rishikesh include the Laxman Jhula, Ram Jhula, Swarg Ashram, Kriya Yoga Ashram, Paddle India, Shivpuri, the Beatles ashram and the Jumpin Heights.

» Haridwar

Haridwar is called as the “Gateway to Lord”, owing to the large number of ashrams and temples here. Pilgrims from various parts of the world travel to the place to offer their prayers. It is also famous for the spiritual festival Kumbh Mela held once in 12 years. Important places of attraction in Haridwar include the Har Ki Pauri, Chandi Devi temple, Shanti Gunj, Maya Devi temple, Mansa Devi temple and the Vaishno Devi Temple.
