The north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh is a treasure trove of natural wonders that can put travellers from the flatland under a spell.

The snow-capped mountain ranges of Himachal attract tourists in droves from far and wide throughout the year. But sadly most of the travellers only include popular destinations in Himachal such as Shimla, Kullu, Manali and the Spiti valley on their itinerary and leave out certain hidden gems of this beckoning state.

One such not-so-popular but breathtaking spot is the hamlet of Sissu in Himachal Pradesh.

The Sissu village is one the destinations where tourism activities have picked up significantly with the opening of the Atal Tunnel, which connects Manali to Lahaul - Spiti valley.

The fact that this fascinating hamlet is just less than 40km away from Manali is a real shot in the arm for the tourism sector in Sissu. A 90-minute comfortable drive from Manlai would take you to Sissu. As the picturesque village can be presently accessed with ease, many tourists have started to pencil in the village, which is situated in the Lahaul valley, on their itinerary.

Sissu is on the banks of the Chandra River and close to 10,235ft above sea level. The majority of residents of the Sissu village follow the holy path paved by Buddhism. It is better to stay in Sissu instead of taking a room on rent in Manali as the mesmerizing small town is dotted with exemplary lodging facilities. Scores of travellers are also heading to Sissu, where tourism is looking up, as hotel rooms and home-stay facilities are cheaper compared to accommodation spaces in Manali.

The eye-catching man-made Sissu Lake is on the banks of the Chandra River. The placid lake oozing with the ethereal beauty of nature looks like a huge polished mirror reflecting the blue skies. The snow-capped mountains and the blue sky can have a telling effect on all visitors. You can travel by car or on foot from Sissu hamlet to the awesome water body.

The stunning waterfall, which is near the Leh-Manali Highway, in Sissu, shouldn’t be missed at any cost. The majority of riders travelling through the highway make it a point to halt for a while and enjoy the beauty of the captivating waterfalls. The Sissu waterfall has an eternal charm that attracts travellers in great numbers.
