Get ready to be swept away on a musical journey like never before, as the vibrant city of Mumbai gears up to host one of the world’s most iconic music festivals – Lollapalooza! The Mahalaxmi race course, sprawling across 225 acres in the heart of the city, is all set to witness a rhythmic revolution for a couple of days, when the infectious sounds of music will replace the usual thunderous beats of galloping hooves. The two-day ‘Lollapalooza 2024’ is all set to hit the shores of the Arabian Sea on January 27.

The stage is set for an electrifying event, one that is expected to boost the live entertainment-event sector, and connected fields big time. Korean pop band ‘The Rose’ will make the headline performance at the Lollapalooza 2024, even as the musical spectacle will feature top bands and gifted talents from across the world like OneRepublic, Jonas Brothers, Sting, Medusa, Keane, Halsey, and Eric Nam among others. Over 45 artists, including eight Grammy award winners, will take the spotlight, taking the audiences on a musical journey that transcends boundaries, creating a sonic tapestry that captures the essence of our interconnected world.

Tickets from Rs 5999 onwards
The pre-booking for the musical event commenced last August itself, even before unveiling the details of the participating bands. Besides the General tickets, admissions will be allowed to VIP and Nexa Launch categories as well. Tickets start at an inviting Rs 5999. Music lovers, though, will have to dole out Rs 12,000 for the General Category, Rs 23, 000 for the VIP session, and Rs 65, 000 for the luxury class Nexa Launch seats to soak in the entire two days of musical extravaganza. The international lineup will grace the festival’s four stages, which can accommodate over 60,000 musical lovers, to deliver over 20 hours of live music.

New awakening to the tourism sector
Far beyond the confines of a music festival, Lollapalooza is expected to be a catalyst for rejuvenation, breathing life into the tourism sector and reshaping the way travelers engage with destinations. One challenge, though, is the burgeoning ticket prices, especially that from Kerala to Mumbai. The airfares to the coastal city on January 27 and 28 have risen to Rs 31,000, the highest for the month. When Mumbai hosted ‘Lollapalooza’ last year, the first time the event was held in Asia, a whopping 35% of the audience was from outside the city, ‘BookMyShow’, one of the event partners, said. Youngsters formed 28%, and 60 percent of the online ticket sales comprised solo tickets, the figures reveal.

From lip-smacking dishes to fashion
This time, the Lollapalooza is a grander affair. It will be a mash-up of musical genres, featuring everything like pop, rock, hip-hop, indie, and Electronic Dance Music (EDM), all performed live. Beyond the electrifying beats, Lollapalooza promises to be a sensory haven, inviting attendees, especially youths, to savour culinary delights and immerse themselves in the vibrant world of fashion – a harmonious convergence of music, food, and fashion.
